CertainTeed Roofing in Ontario, CA | Gable Roof Repair
We provide independent CertainTeed roofing service across Ontario, CA, from the 91761 corridor through 91764 and beyond, with CertainTeed in Upland also in our service area. The thing that makes our CertainTeed work here different is simple: we install and repair these shingles to hold up under the Santa Ana wind funnel that rips through the Cajon Pass every fall, not just to look good on a brochure page. If your CertainTeed roof lost shingles in the last wind event or is showing its age under Inland Empire UV, call us at (866) 650-8319 for a free estimate. We are not authorized, sponsored, or endorsed by CertainTeed; we’re an independent service provider who works on these roofs every week.
Why Ontario Residents Choose Us for CertainTeed Service
Most roofing companies in Ontario can order a bundle of shingles. Fewer can tell you why the seal strips on your Landmark shingles baked brittle on the west slope while the north slope still looks fine, or why your ridge caps blew off in a sheet during the last Santa Ana event instead of one at a time. We work on CertainTeed roofs across the Inland Empire constantly, from Landmark and Presidential lines to the older three-tab XT 25 shingles still holding on across 1970s tract homes in 91761 and 91764. Neil Drummond, our owner, grew up watching older houses fail at the roof line first, and after three decades of diagnostics, he’s learned one thing: the roof doesn’t lie, the materials tell you exactly what went wrong and when. That’s what we bring to every CertainTeed inspection and repair in Ontario. For broader context on how we approach the brand, see our CertainTeed sales & service page.

Common CertainTeed Roofing Problems We Solve in Ontario
CertainTeed makes a solid product line, but Ontario’s specific mix of heat, UV, and wind creates predictable failure modes. Here’s what we see most often:
- Wind-lifted shingle tabs on Landmark slopes. The adhesive seal strips on architectural shingles cure fast in Ontario’s dry heat, then bake brittle after a decade of UV. When Santa Ana winds funnel down from the Cajon Pass, the tabs let go in sheets rather than one at a time. We re-nail to the current wind-uplift schedule and replace any shingles where the seal strip has failed.
- Blown-off ridge caps on 1970s tract roofs. Original ridge caps from the XT 25 era were often nailed with too few fasteners or set high on the shingle. The city’s building department now checks nailing patterns on re-roofs because this is such a common failure point in the 91761 and 91764 ZIPs.
- Granule loss and surface cracking on south- and west-facing slopes. Ontario’s summer sun is relentless. Landmark shingles on the exposed side of the house can shed granules and show surface cracks years before the warranty would suggest. We inspect the whole slope, not just the obvious spots.
- Brittle, dust-dry felt underlayment under shingles and concrete tile. The underlayment is the real waterproofing layer, and on Ontario homes built in the 1960s through 1980s, the original felt is often baked to dust. The shingles or tile on top can look fine while the layer keeping water out has already failed. We find this on a lot of homes when we trace a leak.
- Water intrusion at the next winter rain after wind events. Ontario gets little rain, but when a winter storm follows a fall wind event, the missing shingles and lifted edges become leak sources immediately. The ceiling stain shows up weeks or months after the wind did the damage.
CertainTeed Service in Ontario: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Roof
Ontario sits in a specific spot: at the base of the Cajon Pass, which acts as a natural wind funnel for Santa Ana events sweeping down from the high desert. Unlike coastal cities that fight salt spray or mountain towns that deal with snow load, Ontario roofs get hit from the side by gusts that peel back shingle tabs and lift tile edges, while the dry heat cooks the material from above. Older tract homes in the 91761 and 91764 corridor take the brunt of this because they were built in an era when wind-uplift standards were looser. The practical result for a CertainTeed owner in Ontario is that the installation itself matters at least as much as the shingle. A Landmark shingle nailed high or with too few fasteners will fail at the edge or ridge, wind event after wind event, no matter how good the product is. That’s why we re-nail to the current schedule on every repair we do here, and why we tell owners to look at the fastener pattern, not just the shingle brand, when they’re comparing quotes. For homes throughout the city, our Ontario service area page covers the ZIP codes we work in.
CertainTeed Models & Products We Service in Ontario
We service the full range of CertainTeed residential roofing products found on Ontario homes. That includes Landmark architectural shingles in Landmark 30 and Landmark Pro weights, Presidential and Presidential TL luxury architectural shingles, the older XT 25 three-tab strip shingles common on 1970s and 1980s tract houses, and CertainTeed concrete tile profiles with their underlayment systems on newer infill subdivisions. Our parts approach is straightforward: where the assembly calls for it, we use CertainTeed-branded shingles, ridge caps, and underlayment. Where a quality aftermarket flashing, vent boot, or fastener does the job better or lasts longer, we use that and say so. We keep common CertainTeed shingle colors and ridge profiles in local supply so an Ontario repair doesn’t stall waiting on a distributor order from Riverside or San Bernardino, and we handle CertainTeed repair in Chino with the same local stock.

AfterCertainTeed Service Pricing in Ontario
CertainTeed roofing work in Ontario is priced by the scope, not the brand. A simple shingle replacement or leak repair on a Landmark slope runs less than a full tear-off of a 1970s XT 25 roof with new underlayment and wind-rated nailing. The biggest cost drivers are the slope access, the condition of the existing underlayment, and whether the re-roof needs to meet the current wind-uplift nailing schedule the city inspects for. A free estimate from us includes a written line-item price, a look at the underlayment condition, and a straight answer on whether repair or replacement is the cheaper path over five years. Call (866) 650-8319 for an exact quote on your Ontario roof; estimates are free and there’s no obligation.

FAQs – CertainTeed Roofing in Ontario
A Santa Ana wind blew some shingles off my Ontario roof – does the whole roof need replacing?
Not automatically. If the shingles came off because the seal strips gave out and the underlayment is still intact, we can often replace the damaged slope and re-nail to the wind-uplift schedule without a full tear-off. But if the felt underlayment baked to dust or the original nailing pattern was bad across the whole roof, a selective repair may just move the failure down the slope. We’ll tell you which situation you’re in. Call (866) 650-8319 for an assessment.
Why does my CertainTeed roof look fine but leak after winter rain in Ontario?
The most common reason on older Ontario homes is failed underlayment. The shingles or tile on top can look intact while the original felt underneath has dried out and cracked after decades of Inland Empire heat. Water gets through at a seam or nail hole and finds a path to the ceiling. We trace these leaks from the underside, not by guessing from the surface.
Will replacing my shingles with CertainTeed Landmark fix the wind problem on an exposed Ontario slope?
Only if the fastening is fixed too. Landmark is a good shingle, but a shingle is only as wind-resistant as the nailing pattern holding it down. On an exposed slope facing the Cajon Pass wind funnel, we nail to the current wind-uplift schedule and check the edge metal and ridge attachment at the same time. The product and the fastening have to work together.
Can you shingle over my old roof instead of tearing it off?
We don’t recommend it on Ontario tract homes from the 1970s and 1980s. The original felt underlayment is the waterproofing layer, and shingling over it buries a material that’s already baked brittle. It also doesn’t address the wind-uplift nailing a re-roof inspection should catch. A clean tear-off lets us inspect the decking, replace the felt, and nail to the current schedule. Call (866) 650-8319 and we’ll show you what you’re actually working with.
My 1960s Ontario home has original concrete tile – do I replace the tile or the underlayment?
Usually the underlayment. The tile itself often has decades of life left, but the felt underneath it is likely brittle or failed after sixty years of dry heat. We pull the tile in sections, replace the underlayment, and reset or replace the tile as needed. The tile is the wear surface; the underlayment is what keeps the water out.
